Question:
Hello I recently purchased ETBC7 and didnt realize the brake controller is sold separately. I have 1978 Chevy K10 Suburban and it doesnt have any trailer wiring so I need to install everything. Can you tell me which brake controller would work for the wiring kit that I ordered. Also in description for that kit it says its made to be used with an existing 4 wire setup, will this kit work? Thank you.

Hey Stanislav, welcome back! To add a brake controller to your 1978 Chevy K10 Suburban, I recommend the Curt TriFlex NEXT item # C24VV and the Universal Wiring Adapter item # C51515.
The Curt TriFlex NEXT item # C24VV is a proportional brake controller that will slow or stop your trailer with the same force that you're using to slow or stop your Suburban. The item # C51515 is going to allow you to complete the installation. The blue wire on it is going to connect to the blue wire on the Universal Wiring Harness item # ETBC7. You'll then need to find a suitable ground nearby for the white wire, a 12v power source for the black wire, and the red wire will connect to the cold side of the brake light switch that only shows power when you press the brake pedal. Using a circuit tester like item # PTW2992 will make this easier.
The Universal Wiring Harness item # ETBC7 will indeed work on your 1978 Chevy K10 Suburban so long as you have a 4-way wiring harness installed. If you do not, I recommend the 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector w/ 60" Harness and Wire Taps item # C58044. This will tap into your Suburban's tail light wiring harness to provide the light signals needed for your 7-way connector. You'll then plug the 4-way into the back of the item # ETBC7, like the diagram I attached below.
What kind of trailer do you plan on pulling with your Suburban?
