Installing a Prodigy P3 Brake Controller in a 2012 Chevy 1500 Silverado

Question:
I am trying to install a Tekonsha P3 in a 2012, 1500 Silverado. I found the under dash wires for this but the lite blue with white stripe is already connected to a in line fuse with a white wire and runs through the fire wall and goes into a red casing that also has a black wire. The black wire goes to the fuse box under the hood on the drivers side and connects to one of the studs on the front of fuse box. The wires run toward the rear of the truck in a red casing. I found a red casing in the rear that said something about the brakes and runs up to a taillight. I dont know if this is the same. This truck came from the factory with the hitch and wiring plug installed already. I have pulled trailers and the lights all work ok. But am trying to hook up the brake controller for a recently purchased travel trailer. Can you help? Thank you.

I attached an FAQ on installing a brake controller in a vehicle like your 2012 Chevy Silverado 1500. Based on the description you gave I think the light blue wire with a white stripe would not be the correct wire to use. The wire you are looking for to connect to the red wire of you Tekonsha P3 Controller part # 90195 can be light blue or orange. So for you it sounds like you should use the orange wire if the blue wire is connected to something already.
