Can Roadmaster Comfort Ride Install on I-Beam Frame with Tube Welded Below
Updated 07/14/2026 | Published 07/12/2026 >
Question:
I have a rectangular tub pictured above that is welded to the bottom of the frame I-Beam. It is 64 inches long and the spring hangers are welded to it. This rectangular tube is in turn welded to the bottom of the I-Beam which is 2 ? inches wide. The rectangular tube is not centered on the I-Beam. Please see the attached photo for additional questions Thanks,

Hey Steve, thank you for the picture and thorough description of your setup. I think the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Leaf Spring Suspension Kit w/ Shock Absorbers # RM49NQ will fit and attach to your trailer frame but what you have is pretty unusual so it's definitely worth making sure it will all work. The mounting holes on the top of the center hanger of the Comfort Ride are slotted so you should be able to get a good bite on the tube you have below the I-beam. I almost think you'd be a better candidate for having the equalizers welded on but either way you would be able to make this work. Is welding an option for you?

It should work. I just installed mine a few months ago, and my fifth wheel trailer (2023 Grand Design Reflection 295) has a similar arrangement. It’s a square steel tube welded beneath the frame I-beam, although the tube and I-beam are the same width. Just be slow and careful with the self-tapping screws - I accidentally stripped two of mine (I just went a size larger and tapped the holes before screwing in a larger bolt). Once you get the center mount installed, the rest is easy.

Steve B, I have an Alliance Avenue with the same setup. I beam with the metal block on the underside of the frame. I have installed the Roadmaster Comfort Ride system on my camper with no issue at all.

Jameson, Thanks for the information. I assume that the inside width of the Slipper Spring Box is 2 1/2 inches and outside width is 3 inches. Is it possible to get the dimensions of the slots and the distance from the edge of the slot to the outside of the Slipper Spring Box. Thanks, Steve
