Hello, I recently purchased a 2008 Tundra. It did not come feom the factory with a 7-pin connector. It does have a 2 receiver and 4-pin connector. What would I need to add the 7-pin and a brake controller. Thanks!

Hey James, thanks for reaching out. Since your 2008 Tundra already has a factory 4-way connector, you're in good shape. To add a 7-way and a brake controller, here's what I'd recommend:
- Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat # ETBC7
This kit is designed specifically for trucks like yours that already have a working 4-flat. It upgrades you to a 7-way while keeping the 4-flat functionality, and it includes all of the wiring, breakers, and hardware needed to install an in-cab brake controller.
For the brake controller itself, you can use just about any proportional controller, but my favorite is the following because it works great and keeps the cab looking clean:
- Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller w/ Universal Wiring Harness # RED52VR
The small dash-mounted knob takes up very little space, but you still get smooth, proportional braking without a bulky controller hanging below the dash. It's one of the cleanest setups you can put in a Tundra.

The after market 7 pin connector and brake controller works perfectly on a ‘17 Highlander. Get a good installer. Don’t touch the controller button installed on the dash unless you are hooked to a trailer. Car electronics go nuts if you do. One installer said this equipment (or any) would never wok on my tow vehicle. BS. It won’t work if you touch the brake controller button on the dash with no trailer connection.
