Replacement AC System for a Obsolete Carrier AC Unit

Thanks for all the information Raymond! To replace one of your Carrier AC units, I recommend the Furrion Chill HE RV Air Conditioner System item # FR95TD.

There's no way to just replace your AC unit with a direct factory replacement, you'll need to replace all your AC system components. This is due to the EPA changing the regulations on the refrigerant in the AC units at the beginning of 2025. They've been upgraded to R32 and your Carrier V has the now obsolete 410a refrigerant. None of the 410a components are compatible now with the newer systems. You will be able to use the existing wiring to power the AC system.

The Furrion Chill HE RV Air Conditioner System item # FR95TD is a 13,500 btu system that includes an air distribution box that works in both ducted and ductless orientations. The controls are built directly into the air distribution box so you will not need to run new wires for a thermostat. This system also comes with a built in start capacitor that stores up energy. It's going to really help when the compressor kicks on and needs to draw excess power.

You can use the Dometic Digital Thermostat item # DMC84RR to control your furnace. I do not have or know of a thermostat that's going to work with the new R32 AC systems and your furnace.

I looked up your 2008 Damon Tuscany and it looks like your motorhome came with two 13,500 btu AC units. Does yours have two? I'm just trying to dial in the right system for you. We've got quite a few replacement options and I understand swapping out everything to replace an older AC unit wasn't what you had in mind.

I did the Furion install myself, bit of a tough hall getting it up on the roof. I used some 2x4's to make a high deck on the back of my truck, lifting up from there not too bad. System works well, nice and cool (20 to 30 degree from from ambient temp). If you are adding heat and want to control it from a remote mounted controller, you are going to need to add that and wire it in. One drawback is that my RV is ductless so the return air is just forced straight down. Sure the back of the RV under the AC is nice and chill but whish there was a way to give directional vents.
