Brake Controller for a For 9000 Semi Towing a Trailer With Hydraulic

Updated 06/09/2026 | Published 06/02/2026

Question:

Hello. Two questions. I have a ford 9000 that has air brakes. I need a brake controller for a trailer with hydraulic brakes along with the trailer plug. Also, do yall sell trailer wires? I’m looking to rewire a 32 foot trailer. Thank you.

Thanks for reaching out, Joshua.

In regard to your first question, there is a way to install a brake controller on your Ford 9000. However, there isn't much information available on how to do it or what wiring modifications may be required to make it work. The best brake controller we carry that is compatible with hydraulic brakes is the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED52VR.

For the trailer wiring, I would recommend going with a 7-way connector that is prewired into a junction box, like part # e99011. This junction box comes with ring terminals, making it easier to connect all of the trailer wiring.

Since you're planning to rewire the entire trailer, that's going to be the easiest and cleanest way to go. For the rest of the wiring, we do carry wire by the foot, part # DK74FR. I recommend ordering a few extra feet beyond the length of the trailer, just in case you need a little more than expected.

Are you also planning to replace any of the lights on the trailer, or are you just looking to redo the wiring?

Definitely going to redo the lights as well. I’ll get a count.

@JoshuaS Sounds good! Let me know how many and in what color and how they attach (grommet, bolt on, etc.) and I can search through our lights for you.
