I have asked the Master Tech I use to upgrade from 4 to 7 pin wiring harness on my 2013 Toyota FJ Cruiser. First do you have a third party kit to accomplish this that will work well with the Redarc brake controller? Next, I want to use a Redarc Tow-Pro brake controller with an ed mount I am looking for as much plug-and-play that I can get. Any part numbers and/or links would be helpful. Hi Robert!
What you are looking for is our Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat # ETBC7. This piggybacks off your existing 4-Flat, but you will need to run some wires up to the battery for power and then into the cab to get the controller connected and working properly. So this isn't a plug and play option (it actually doesn't look like there is one if you didn't have the factory tow package installed from the get go), but it isn't a super difficult install. I included a diagram and an install video that will show you exactly what you will need to do.
The Redarc brake controller (either the Tow-Pro Elite # RED44FR or the Tow-Pro Liberty # RED52VR) would then need to be spliced into the wiring going into the cab, but the included pigtail makes that part pretty easy. Then you just mount the control box for everything up and out of the way and use the # 331-TPSI-007 Mounting Panel for the knob and you are good to go!
So this set up will not be plug and play, unfortunately, but it really isn't too terribly difficult. If you have any kind of DIY or wiring experience, you will have it done in no time.
