Question:
I have a 2013 Fleetwood Storm 28. Once I hit 45mph it starts to wander like crazy. I am going to order a steering stabilizer but cannot decide between the Safe-T-Plus or the Roadmaster. Both look good, the Safe-T-Plus looks a little easier to install. Can you give me your expert opinion on which unit is better?

Hello Terry,
Great question. Between the two, I would go with the Safe-T-Plus Steering Stabilizer with Mounting Hardware Kit # ST88MR for your 2013 Fleetwood Storm.
The Safe-T-Plus and the Roadmaster both do a good job, but I tend to lean toward the Safe-T-Plus because it provides a stronger self-centering feel and does an excellent job of reducing the constant steering corrections that can wear you out on a long drive. Plus, as you mentioned, the installation is pretty straightforward.
The big thing to understand is that a steering stabilizer and sway bars fix two completely different issues.
If you're driving down the road and hit a rut, groove, expansion joint, or rough patch of pavement and the coach wants to follow it, that's where the Safe-T-Plus # ST88MR shines. It helps keep the steering centered and reduces that wandering feeling that makes you feel like you're constantly chasing the coach down the road.
If you're getting pushed around by crosswinds, passing semis, or the coach feels like it's leaning and rocking side-to-side, that's where sway bars come into play. For your F-53 chassis, I would look at the Hellwig Rear Anti-Sway Bar # HE29FR and Hellwig Front Anti-Sway Bar # HE43RR. Those upgrades help keep the body of the motorhome flatter and more stable, which translates into a much more confident driving experience.
Based on your description of "wandering like crazy" once you get above 45 mph, I would start with the Safe-T-Plus # ST88MR. If after driving it you still feel like the coach is getting pushed around by wind or leaning excessively, then I would add the Hellwig sway bars. Honestly, a lot of F-53 owners end up doing both and are amazed at how much more enjoyable the coach is to drive.
Is the wandering happening on calm days too, or does it get noticeably worse when trucks pass or the wind picks up?
