Recommended Hitch for 2023 Mazda CX-9 With Step Thru E-Bikes With Fenders

Updated 05/27/2026 | Published 05/21/2026

Question:

What 2- bike racks would you recommend for step thru ebike w fenders? 56lbs. Must tilt to allow hatch access and fold vertically when not in use. I have a 2023 mazda cx9 w 2 hitch. Thanks in advance!

Hey Jim! For your setup I recommend the Hollywood Racks RV Rider Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes # HLY64FR. This uses padded clamps so you can hold the bikes by the frame, or by the seat post, which is perfect for step through designs and completely avoids the fenders.

It has a capacity of 80 lbs per bike which covers most e-bike models. Then of course it does tilt away so you can still access the rear hatch while carrying your bikes, and folds up for storage.

What kind of e-bikes do you have?

Have had the HLY64FR for 3 or so years now. Carry 2 Specialized E-bikes step through frame (with fenders). Use it on a class C rv and Subaru Forester. Very happy with it.

We bought the Hollywood rack over 2 years ago and have traveled over 30,000 miles with our two Lectric ebikes on it. We have used it on our jeep and our truck. Very happy. Still performing great. We have not used the tilt down because we have a Kuat Pivot arm that swings out giving us full access. But the tilt works. We do tilt it up when the bikes are not on it. I would buy it again.

I've had the Hollywood RV carrier almost 3 years. It always carries a 70 pound Aventon Aventure and sometimes an additional Aventon Level, both step through frames. This is on the back of a Hyundai Pallisade. I can't find any fault with this arrangement and can't think of anything I would change, especially at this price. You can spend a whole lot more but I don't know why I would.
