Will the B&W Continuum Hitch Have Ground Clearance Issues on a Steep Driveway?

Updated 05/17/2026 | Published 05/11/2026

Question:

I have a 2025 F150 Powerboost towing a 32foot Grand Design TT 9500 GVW. I am concerned about ground clearance as my driveway has in incline. Have there been issues regarding this?

Hello Dennis,

That is definitely something you will want to check with your setup. The B&W Continuum # BW78FR will sit about 9 inches below your trailer frame once installed, so you will want to measure from the ground to the bottom of the frame near the coupler area to see if you will have enough clearance for your driveway incline.

With weight distribution systems like this, the spring bar assemblies under the trailer tongue are usually the lowest point and the most likely area to contact during a steep transition. Since every driveway angle is a little different, measuring your current clearance is the best way to know for sure how it will fit with your Grand Design.

If the clearance looks close, pulling into the driveway at a slight angle instead of straight on can help quite a bit. That allows the truck and trailer to transition more gradually and usually gives you additional clearance compared to entering the incline head-on.

If you do have the clearance, this is a great system. I set-up my boyfriends brother with the continuum, he has a 32 footer as well, and is pulling it with a Chevy 2500. He has had nothing but great things to say! Plus you can never go wrong with B&W!

What adventure are you looking most forward to this summer?

I have not had a problem with this, unless I don't preload the system while in the driveway, then later go for my final psi. Basically at full extension, and adding the sag, this will likely bump/scrape the ground in the transition time driveway to street, I have forgotten to load it up at the campground and had it bump/scrape at the transition from site to pavement. No real harm came to the system. I love this system, it is the best WD Hitch I have ever towed with bar none.

Hello Dennis. I have not dragged my B&W Continuum Hitch under yet in the year we've had it. My wife and I travel full time in our 30 foot Brinkley I-265. The only time I was worried was in the Redwoods in a back road campground and it cleared with inches to spare under load. My tow vehicle is a 2023 F150 XL max tow max payload with 3.5l ecoboost. NOTE: I do have SumoSprings installed on the front & rear suspension of my truck as well as the four points of contact on the RV. Hopefully this helps.

@GeraldA The SumoSprings definitely make a huge difference as well! Sounds like you have your towing set-up dialed in just right! Thanks for the response Gerald, it is nice to hear that first hand experience.

There are three Height adjustments on the hydraulic ram arm. That also ajust the preload. I have a 23 powerboost. Only time it ever hit the ground was when I did not reset my ride Height back for another trailer and I also didnt have it pumped to load the bars. I can tell you that if it does drag at all it can take the abuse. The steel is thick amd strong so nothing to worry about.
