How to Get 16 Yakima Lock Cores Controlled by the Same Key

Updated 05/05/2026 | Published 04/30/2026

Question:

Hello, I am looking at the Yakima Y04086 for 2 kayak paddles and while buying the SKS Locking System for the brackets, I want to go ahead and get the Yakima Y07208 to have a common key set. Any issues with doing that at one time? Also, I will have more than 8 lockable brackets. Is there a way to get 16 lockable brackets keyed the same?

There's no issue with that at all Charles! It'll actually be easier to do this all at once. The Yakima Same Key System item # Y07208 comes with eight replacement/new lock cores, two keys, and a control key. You can purchase as many of these as you need and have them all setup to be operated by the same key.

The control key will not only set the key code for the cores included with the item # Y07208 it'll also allow you to change your other lock cores like the ones that came with Locking Brackets item # Y07064 you purchased last month.

Not sure if the 16 lock cores you need include the ones you bought last month or are in addition to but we also have the lock cores in two, four, and six packs.

2 Lock Cores - Yakima Same Key System item # Y07202

4 Lock Cores - Yakima Same Key System item # Y07204

6 Lock Cores - Yakima Same Key System item # Y07206

What other Yakima gear do you want keyed alike with the cargo basket and paddle holders?

When I switched over the Yakima EXO Gear Locker system both Swingbase and Topshelf I also purchased the SKS system so that I could have one key that would work for all the different locks on each of the components. It was very easy to replace the locks after some initial experimentation in getting the feel of how the master key works. Also it is very helpful to pay close attention to the locks being replaced versus the new cores. With a little bit of diligence and organization you won't get them mixed up. Also be careful not to force or bend the keys. Otherwise I would highly recommend the SKS system, Yakima products and eTrailer (they and their DIY videos are very helpful).
