I have a Dometic Penguin 2 number 936002287 and Looking at Dometic FJX5557EHP as a replacement. Is it compatible and are there installation instructions and diagrams avaialble

Hey Mike.
I took a look at the unit you have, and it’s one of the older Dometic setups that uses R-410A refrigerant. With the newer EPA regulations, all current RV AC systems now use R-32 refrigerant, and because of that, the newer units aren’t cross-compatible with the older components.
So unfortunately, the Dometic FJX5557EHP wouldn’t be a direct plug-and-play replacement for your current system. To make the switch, you would need to replace the full setup—the rooftop unit, the air distribution box, and the thermostat.
I know that’s probably more than you were hoping for, but it’s due to the refrigerant change and how the newer systems are designed.
We currently carry the Dometic FJX5557EHP that you are asking about. We do have a great option though. The Furrion Chill Cube # FR59TD would be great for a ductless set up and the Furrion Chill Cube # FR99TD would be for a ducted set up. Both would come with instructions and manuals.

Mike , You can verify all of this with Dometic, but technically the Dometic FJX5557EHP ( Fresh Jet 5 ) they will tell you is "compatible" and is a "replacement" for the older Penguin II. In practice, it's really not, and it's not because of the refrigerant type. In a ductless system the air distribution boxes do not match. In a ducted system, the thermostat does not match, and if you have multiple zones then you would either have to replace all the units to work with the new thermostat, or update the DIP switches on the old units so they can continue to work on the old thermostat and have the new unit tied directly to a new thermostat. I haven't checked recently, but you can check with Micro-Air to see if they'll end up having a single thermostat that can handle the multiple zones with the different series. If they do end up getting that done, then the Fresh Jet will be a more seamless replacement, but it won't be because of any help of Dometic. So basically, unless Micro-Air ends up offering a thermostat that can support the different series or Dometic implements something, the only thing that is "compatible" is the hole in the ceiling.
