Can Tire Linc Pro Repeater LC67VC Be Mounted Inside A Battery Box?

Updated 04/29/2026 | Published 04/15/2026

Question:

Can the repeater for the Tire Linc Pro TPMS be mounted inside the battery box on the tongue of my trailer? The box is well sealed from rain and road moisture and has easy access to the batteries.

Hello CC, thanks for reaching out. Short answer, no, I wouldn’t mount it inside the battery box.

The Tire Linc Pro Repeater # LC67VC is supposed to be mounted in a spot that’s as open and unobstructed as possible, ideally in a front compartment with minimal metal around it so the signal can get out cleanly. Metal enclosures like a battery box can block or weaken that signal, which defeats the whole purpose of the repeater.

Best move is to mount it just outside the battery box or in a nearby front storage compartment, still close to power but with a clear path forward toward the truck. That way you keep the wiring simple but don’t choke off the signal.

What kind of trailer do you have?

OK, I understand that the battery box is a metal box, essentially a Faraday cage. But so is my entire trailer, an Airstream with a double layer of aluminum walls. Mounting the repeater inside the trailer seems like a similar problem, just a larger metal box. Can I mount it on the underside of the plastic lid of [what used to be] the propane bottles cover on the tongue? (It now contains a stack of LiFePO4 batteries, so it has easy access to 12V power.) Lippert's install instructions say "orientation matters, do not mount it upside down or sideways." Can it be mounted to a horizontal surface rather than a vertical surface? I could mount it at the top of the propane bottles surround (a single layer of aluminum). I'm just looking for options that have easily accessible 12V power and a clear path from both the sensors and the cab of my TV. Is the repeater weather proof? If so, I could mount it on the outside of the propane bottle cover, on top, back, or side. It would be exposed to the elements. Then its signal would not have to penetrate as many layers of metal from the sensors or to my phone in the cab.

@CcW You’re thinking about it the right way, but the difference is the battery box is a tight metal enclosure right around the repeater, which can block the signal more than the trailer walls that have openings and less concentrated metal. Mounting it under the plastic propane cover is actually a solid option since it’s not metal and gives the signal a better path. Just make sure you follow Lippert’s guidance and mount it on a vertical flat surface, not horizontal or upside down. The repeater isn’t fully weatherproof, so keeping it under that cover is ideal, it gives you protection from the elements while still allowing good signal strength forward toward the truck.
