Way To Use Wireless Towing Lights And Still Have A Charge Line For The Towed Vehicle

Hi Brian!

We definitely have a way to accomplish what you are looking to do. Actually, two ways. The first is going to take a bit of cutting and wiring things, but it won't actually be overly difficult to do. The second way will be a bit easier, but it won't look as nice.

For the first way, you will want to start with something like the Optronics Wireless Magnetic LED Trailer Lights Battery Powered Stop/Turn/Tail Kit with Transmitter # OPT88UB. This connects to a 4 flat and that is where you are going to have to start changing things. You will need to cut that 4 flat off and then rewire the base wires to something like the Optronics 7-Way Round RV Style Trailer Connector - Trailer Side # A7WCB. While you are rewiring that, you will also want to wire in the Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-156-25 to the auxiliary 12v power port on the 7 way plug. I included a picture with how things will need to be wired to help with that part. You will then run that charge line to your battery and mount the transmitter for the wireless lights somewhere safe and out of the way. You could add some TowSmart Wire Loom, 3/8" Diameter, 10' Long # TS49QR to give everything a nice clean look when finished as well.

The second way will require the 7-way on your towing vehicle to also have a 4-flat next to it, which a lot of them do, but not all of them. If it does, you could simply plug in the Optronics wireless lights # OPT88UB to that 4-flat and then wire the # A7WCB 7-way plug with only the # RM-156-25 charge line. You would also be plugging the 7-way plug into the 7-way on the towing vehicle, so you will want to make sure both the 4-flat and 7-way can be opened at the same time (again, most can, but not all of them). I would still use the # TS49QR to finish this set up as it will help keep a cleaner look and help protect the wiring. You will route the charge line to the battery and mount the transmitter out of the way, just as before.

So option two will technically be easier, but if I were doing this, I would go with the first option. It will be a cleaner look and really isn't that difficult of a task to accomplish.

Out of curiosity now, what vehicle are you wanting this for and what will the towing vehicle be?
