can you recommended a 3500 lbs spindle and 5 on 5 1/2 hub assembly that come complete or a matching set ? Thanks!

Hi Mark, You’re on the right track with that hub, and we can dial this in so everything matches up correctly. I want to preface my answer by saying we do not carry a spindle and hub assembly in the same kit.

The part # AKIHUB-555-35-EZ-K is designed for a standard 3,500 lb setup and uses the common #84 spindle dimensions. That means it takes an inner bearing L68149 with a 1.378 inch inner diameter, an outer bearing L44649 with a 1.063 inch inner diameter, and typically a 10-19 grease seal with a 1.719 inch inner diameter.

We do carry the right spindle for that setup. You’ll want to go with the TruRyde #84 spindle, part # TRU84FR. It’s designed for 3,500 lb axles and matches the hub you mentioned since it uses the same L68149 inner and L44649 outer bearings, so everything will fit together correctly. It’s a weld-on style spindle, so it would be used for either replacing a damaged spindle or building a new axle.

I agree with what Heather said. The new Hubs and Bearings fit the old axles as advertised. The only problem I had with mine used the one piece grease caps were too big to press into the hub when you cover up the bearing nut. I reused the old grease caps as they fit the hubs better.

@DougE That’s a really helpful callout, Doug, I’m glad you mentioned it. What you ran into with the grease caps can happen sometimes. Even though those hubs are designed around standard dimensions, there can be slight variances in hub bore tolerances or the caps themselves that make the included one-piece caps feel just a bit too tight to seat properly. Reusing your original caps is actually a perfectly fine solution as long as they fit snug and aren’t damaged. For anyone else running into this, a light tap with a rubber mallet can help seat a tight cap, but if it feels like it’s just not going in evenly, it’s better not to force it. A cap that’s too tight can deform, and one that’s not seated correctly can lead to grease loss. Sounds like you handled it the right way.
