Hi Marty, you’re definitely thinking in the right direction here, and I can see exactly what you’re trying to accomplish with adding a brake indicator at the very back of the Blazer.

What you’re running into is normal for this type of setup. The 7-way on the Blazer’s hitch is not being powered by the motorhome for brake lights, because your lighting signals are already being carried through your 7-to-6 flat tow wiring. The brake output pin on a 7-way is meant for trailer brake controllers, not for activating brake lights, so even adding a charge line would not make that connector light up when you hit the brakes.

The easiest and most reliable way to get the result you’re after is to add a wireless light bar like the Demco part # DM36MV. This system plugs into your Bounder’s 7-way and wirelessly sends the brake, turn, and running light signals to the light bar mounted on the back of your Blazer. The nice part is it completely bypasses the Blazer’s wiring, so it will work alongside your existing lighting kit without interfering with anything you already have set up.

Since your Blazer’s battery is disconnected while towing, you would also want to add a 12 volt outlet kit like part # RM-9332. This installs on the Blazer and gives you a dedicated power source for the light bar so it can operate while you’re towing. If you don’t currently have a charge line part # RM-156-25 from the Bounder to the Blazer, that would be needed as well to keep that outlet powered while the battery is disconnected.

This setup gives you a clean, reliable brake light indicator at the very back of the Blazer without having to modify the factory wiring or try to make that 7-way do something it’s not designed for.
