Installation, Torque Specs, and Panel Trimming for Curt Trailer Hitch on a Toyota Highlander

Updated 07/09/2014 | Published 07/06/2014

Question:

1. I was looking for the toking foot lbs. info. for 7 nuts. Not on my paperwork! 2. The videos did not cover the removal and re-installation of the two side covers from under this SUV. One of them needed to be cut in a major way. 3. The shipping box was falling apart and part of the hitch was hanging outside the box when I first inspected it. No real damage, but poor fit inside the box.

Step 5 in the instructions for trailer hitch # 13534, linked to the right, has the torque specifications. The trim diagrams are also in the instructions. The isntructions are not only linked here but also on the product page. Always look for the wrench icon on the right hand side of pages for instruction links.

Trimming is not always shown if the owner of that vehicle did not want the panels trimmed or put back on. The hitch also fits a 2013 Toyota Highlander and trimming is shown in that video which I have linked.

The reality of the shipping industry is that stuff gets tossed, jostled, shoved, and handed off so much that no matter how well something is packed there is a chance that this can happen. We take all the precautions that we can but if a package is handled rough, no matter what is inside but especially heavy steel, unfortunate events can happen. If something does arrived damaged rest assured we will take care of the customer.
