Question:

The passenger side wheel hub bearings blew out on my 2015 Nitro Z-7 bass boat trailerTrail Star. Its the Vortex hub system. I need help purchasing the full hub/bearing assembly kit. Can you tell me which Vortex hub kit I need? If you dont have the Vortex kit please let me know the best alternative hub kits suitable for frequent submerging in freshwater. Im going to replace the hubs on both wheels. Its a single axle trailer, GVWR 3500lbs, 5 lug wheel, no brakes. The trailer ID is 4TM14BJ11FB001567. The number 46210 is etched on the back of the hub. And the hub cap reads Dexter Vortex 21-261. Thank you for any help you can provide.

Hey Matthew, thanks for reaching out, and thanks for providing all the pictures and details, that really helps. Your trailer uses a standard 3,500 lb axle hub. We do have a full hub/bearing assembly kit that will work for you, but we do not have hubs that will work with the Dexter Vortex caps.

For the hub kit, I recommend the following:

This is a marine-grade galvanized hub that comes with bearings, races, seal, lug nuts and a standard EZ-lube grease cap.

If you submerge the trailer frequently and want to upgrade the caps, Bearing Buddy Bearing Protectors are worth looking into. You can do part # BB1980A-SS for the caps. These pressurize the inside of the hub and do a great job keeping any and all water out. The standard grease caps can work fine if you only submerge the trailer twice a year but if you will be dunking it regularly, the bearing buddies are a worthwhile upgrade and will help prolong the life of the hubs.

How often do you dunk the trailer? Whereabouts do you fish most often?

I have not yet used the hub/bearing assembly.The assembly was bought as a spare just in case of a failure.

These hubs are on a boat trailer at the coast. It gets dunked 12 to 15 times a month and I haven’t had any problems. What I like is you can actually see the grease and the amount needed if any
