How to Measure For New Awning on Coleman Light XL Series

i have a coleman light lx series 1755FD. i was wanting info on a complete awning for this camper. i need to replace the whole thing. someone borrowed it. left the awning out and a major storm came through and pretty much destroyed it. the whole left wall bracket is completely gone and its bent up so bad it wont even retract all the way so you cant even pull it without it flipping and flopping everywhere. this is the nuner thats on the tongue of the trailer part 4YDT1751XJM937658 if you need that. any info on the awnings for this particular camper will be helpful.

Hi William, man that’s a tough situation, I’m sorry that happened. Storm damage like that can really twist everything up, especially when the arms and brackets get bent, so going with a full replacement is definitely the right call here. The good news is you don’t have to match the exact awning that originally came on your Coleman. Manufacturers switch those out pretty often.

To get you set up with the right complete kit, I’ll just need a couple measurements. The big one is the arm to arm width, which is measured from the center of one arm to the center of the other. I’ll also want to confirm the arm length, which is how far the awning extends out from the trailer, and is typically around 8 feet on most trailers like yours. I will also need the length of your current awning. Since your current setup is damaged, we just want to double check those so the new system fits correctly. Also, is your current awning power or manual?

For example: The etrailer 12V Power RV Patio Awning part # e57QV is 10' Wide with a 8' Projection.

Once we have that, we can get you into a full kit with new arms, fabric, and mounting hardware so you’re starting fresh and don’t have to worry about anything flopping around or loosening up again.

hey, i got some measurements on the awning of what parts that are still on the camper. the one left side is completely gone. it ripped the arm and the piece that mounts to the side of the camper so all of that is gone and they didnt even bring it back with them. so ill never let anyone borrow anything again. the pieces that connect to the side of the camper are 56 inches long from the bottom up to where the awning connects to camper. the roller from center of the arm to the center of the where the other arm should be is around 167 inches long, the canopy when it is rolled out is 88 inches to where it connects to the roller with an 8 inch flap that lays over the roller to the outside of the roller. the scissor part on the arm that is left is even broken where the pivot pin is and the rollers where it slides up and down on the part that connects to the side of the camper is even missing. its almost like they just drove off with the canopy still out, hung it on something and tore it off, but youll never know the truth about it. if the one you recommended will work and any other ones will work just give me the numbers and ill try to order one. it even ripped the screw inserts slap out of the wall. so im going to have to get the tool and inserts to put them back in. I also just found out today that they prob lost the keys to all the locks on it as well. i have no clue what these people were thinking, bad thing is it was my sons family. i do appreciate your help. i didnt see anywhere to add a photo or i would have included it.

@WilliamC Hi William, I’m really sorry you’re dealing with all of that. That’s a frustrating situation on its own, and I know it makes it even tougher when it involves family. I do appreciate you taking the time to get those measurements because that helps narrow things down quite a bit. Based on the roughly 167 inch arm to arm spacing you measured, you’re right in that 13 foot awning range, so going with a full replacement kit is definitely the right move here with everything that’s missing and damaged. Something like the etrailer 12V Power Awning part # e27QV is a great option to get you back up and running with all new components, or if you want to stay closer to your original size, the Solera XL 12V Power Awning part # LCV000334926-362243 is another solid choice that gives you a wider coverage. Since the original wall inserts were pulled out, you will want to plan on picking up new wall anchors or well nuts separately, as the awning kits include standard mounting hardware but not the repair-style anchors needed for a situation like this. You’ll also want to make sure the wall where everything mounts is still solid before installing the new arms so you’ve got a secure hold moving forward. Once it’s replaced, you’ll be in a much better spot with a clean, complete setup instead of trying to piece together damaged parts. One important thing I do want to clarify is how those awning arms mount. They do need to be secured directly into solid structure, typically wall studs or framing, and not just the outer wall material.
