Is the Optronics LED Backup Light BUL12CB Only Able to Be Used as a Reverse Light?

Updated 03/19/2026 | Published 03/11/2026

Question:

Regarding this light is it for backup only? The general question is I want to put it under my sidewalls to shine down on the Triton logo at all times. So I do not want to purchase for this and it only light up when I’m in reverse. Any clarification would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Brady, welcome back! The Optronics LED Backup Light item # BUL12CB is designed to just be a backup light but you can wire it to any circuit you want. If you wire it to a reverse circuit it will only get power when your tow vehicle's in reverse. If you wire it to a running light circuit it'll be on the entire time your lights are.

Please note that it is illegal almost everywhere to have rear-facing white lights on while driving forward on public roads. I found this out the hard way in high school. If you're planning on installing the Optronics item # BUL12CB on the side of your trailer you'll be good so long as none of it is visible from the rear.

To get the Optronics item # BUL12CB installed we have the PVC Grommet item # a70gb and the Right Angle 3-Wire Pigtail item # A47PB.

When you say under your sidewalls where specifically on your trailer are you referring to?
