Will Hooks of Yakima BigCatch Kayak Roof Rack # Y04091 Scratch Vehicle

Question:
Hi - looking at the Yakima big catch to hold two kayaks using a tower rack above my truck bed. My question is do the bow and stern tie downs scratch your hood/bumper/tailgate and is there something available to prevent the damage. Thanks

Hey Geoff, if you are smart about how you use the hooks of the Yakima BigCatch Kayak Roof Rack # Y04091 they won't scratch anything but if not there is potential for scratching. It's all about finding the best place to put the hooks so that damage or scratches wouldn't occur.

I did not experience any scratches. However, it still concerned me so I ended up switching to 3/8” paracord with a truckers hitch knot to cinch down. Also, the thin paracord isn’t as obnoxious to look at while driving.
