Can Trailer Brake Rotors be Rotated 90 Degrees to Allow for Leaf Spring Clearance
Updated 03/12/2026 | Published 03/08/2026 >
Question:
Ive got the brakes mounted on the trailer but the brake line fittings are going to be obstructed by the springs. Is it OK to turn the 90 fitting on the calipers to change the entry point?

Hey Chris, yes you can rotate the assemblies 90 degrees to allow the lines to fit without interference like you mentioned. Keep in mind you will need to bleed the assemblies so try to have one of the bleeders as far up as you can.

Per your request for comment - let me know if you use this and I’ll be happy to share. I installed the DeeMaxx Disc Brake Kit on my AmeraTrail trailer, replacing the rotors, calipers, and bearings, and the difference has been significant. Since making the switch, the recurring maintenance issues I previously dealt with have largely disappeared. The trailer carries a 25’ Pathfinder bay boat and has accumulated substantial mileage running up and down the East Coast—from Virginia to the Florida Keys. It regularly launches and retrieves in saltwater environments ranging from the Keys and central Florida to North Carolina and the Chesapeake Bay, so corrosion resistance and braking reliability are critical. The system is paired with a standard hydraulic surge actuator, and after a couple of years of use and well over 10,000 towing miles, the braking performance has been consistent and dependable. Stopping is smooth and predictable with no signs of brake fade or uneven pad wear, even during longer highway runs. The rotors and calipers have held up well to repeated saltwater exposure. As with any marine trailer, I rinse the trailer after saltwater launches and periodically inspect the hubs and calipers as part of normal maintenance, and everything has continued to perform as it should. Installation and component fitment were straightforward, and the overall build quality is solid. I also want to give a big shout-out to their support team—they’ve been knowledgeable and responsive whenever I’ve had questions. From both a mechanical and real-world towing standpoint, it’s been a well-built system that performs the way a marine trailer brake setup should. Capt. Doug Goodman
