Updated 03/20/2026 | Published 03/08/2026

Question:

I have a 2015 Jeep wrangler. Has the after market front bumper with the d rings. I am looking at flat towing it behind a 2025 Tiffin rv. It has a 12k hitch on rv. I need everything to be able to flat tow the jeep.

Hey John, we have what you need to flat tow your 2015 Jeep Wrangler. The first component you'll need is a base plate kit which since you have D-rings you'd need an adapter like the part # RM-035-1 for if they are 1 inch or part # RM-035 if they are 3/4 inch.

In addition to the base plates, you will also need a compatible tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking to flat tow your vehicle. The most popular compatible tow bar is the Falcon 3HD, # RM27NQ. This has non-binding arms which makes the setup very easy to connect/disconnect.

For lighting/safety cables, locks, and covers for the tow bar we have the Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain kit part # RM-9243-1 which comes with all of that as one part number. The diode kit that comes with this allows you to splice into the taillight wiring so that your RV controls the vehicle taillights and does not require drilling into the taillight housings. This comes with a round 6-way connector that you will install on the front of your towed vehicle and enough coiled wire to go from there to the RV.

And finally, most states now require supplemental braking in the vehicle being flat towed. The easiest system to set up and use is the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR, that applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.

Have you flat towed a vehicle before?

I bought the D-Ring baseplate kit. It works extremely well. Connecting and disconnecting is quick and easy. The issue to be careful of is the Jeep. You need to be sure the bumper is connected to the frame.

I have an aftermarket bumper installed on my Jeep that has D-rings integrated directly into the bumper, which eliminated the need for a base plate and made the towing setup significantly easier. Previously, I used a vehicle tow trailer, and the hookup process typically took 30–45 minutes. With my current setup, the connection process now takes no more than about 10 minutes. I am using the Roadmaster tow system along with D-ring adapters purchased from etrailer, and the combination works perfectly for my setup. One important suggestion I would offer is to ensure that the D-rings on your bumper are actually rated for towing if your Jeep is already equipped with forged or integrated D-rings. Many aftermarket bumpers include D-rings intended primarily for winching or short-distance recovery situations, such as pulling a stuck vehicle free. The forces placed on D-rings during flat towing are substantial, and if the bumper is not specifically designed and rated for towing, the D-rings could potentially fail or pull away from the bumper while towing.

I have an aftermarket bumper on my 2023 Gladiator that has the d-rings on it like you described on yours. I bought the d-ring adapters from etrailer and put them on my tow bar. I had to do some minor modification to make it fit, but if you use the tow bar that Jamison suggested the adapters mount right to it. Just remove the adapters that come with the tow bar and install the #RM-035 & #RM-035-1 adapters and it works perfectly. Easy to hook up and un hook.

I use this D Ring adapter connected to my Falcon 2 tow bar and tow my Jeep TJ. I installed aftermarket front bumper with D rings, stated to be 9,000 rated (?). Also used these same short cables I connected to bumper/frame mounting bolts for safety cables. My D rings required the sieve in the D ring for mounting pins.

I have an aftermarket bumper with D rings. The adapters fit great with the included sleeve installed. Very happy with the adapters. I did modify the aftermarket bumper by adding additional mounts to the frame and reinforcement to the D rings. My aftermarket bumper did have a statement not to use for flat towing. However it is more then most baseplates with mounting locations and material thickness.
