2 inch Hitch Adapter to Use Thule Expressway in 2 inch Hitch

Updated 03/14/2026 | Published 03/06/2026

Question:

Im looking to adapt an older bike rack built for a 1-1/4 hitch, to now be used with a 2 hitch. The manual that came with the rack says its a Thule 995/996 Expressway although I should caution that it doesnt show the 1-1/4 section that Thule welded onto the rack. Can you point me to the correct sleeve/adapter, as well as a new hitch pin with matching threads that is long enough to attach everything? It would be even better if the hitch pin had a lock, like the current one does. Thanks!

Hey Michael, I checked with Thule and they don't make a 2 inch hitch adapter for your Expressway due to the age of the rack. So what you would need is a sleeve reducer like the part # e63YR. For an anti rattle hitch lock that you could use with the adapter part # 63232.

I bought the adapter to allow for the use with an older bike rack and all fit as it should. E trailers, parts, and adapters are as advertised - great quality and work perfectly.

My hitch and bike rack are 1 1/4" but I wanted to raise it a few inches. I ordered the following: Hitch Adapter: e93YR to raise it and convert to 2". Hitch Reducer: e63YR to reduce it back to 1 1/4". Hitch Pin & Clip: F4 ETrailer and the parts all were great. However, don't ever try to put a hitch on a Camry. They are too low. The adapter drags driving from my driveway to the road.

I have a Thule 9035xts T2 Pro XT 2 Bike 1.25" Hitch Platform Rack. My 2012 Tacoma has a 2” hitch. I am using the adapter they referenced and have had no problems. I am not familiar with the hitch lock they reference, but it sounds like a good idea.

This adapter is robust and works. However, since it effectively extends the length of the tongue of a bike rack, and there is a minor amount of play where it plugs into the two inch hitch receiver, it can exacerbate sway and bounce in the rack when you hit irregularities like potholes or railroad tracks.

Hi - I just got the reducer, not the anti-rattle - the reducer works fine - I never heard of this anti-rattle thing, seems interesting, but mine doesn`t rattle to much - best, K
