Replacement Hub and Brake Assemblies for a 4,400 lbs Axle

Updated 03/12/2026 | Published 03/05/2026

Question:

The rating on the axles is 4,400 lbs not 5,000. Sorry about the error. The length of the leaf spring is 26. The length of the axle, including the 4 x 4 flanges on the ends is 79 1/2. That didnt include the brake assemblies bolted to the flanges. We have at least one brake assembly destroyed. The other is probably gone too. So we need the axle with both brake systems. Ready to mount our wheels.

Hey Cat, thanks for the information. I've got the rest of the parts you're needing but we do not have an axle that measures 79-1/2" wide. The closest we have is a 72" and 85".

The Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly item # 8-407-5UC3-EZ is designed for 4,400 lbs axles and has a 6 on 5-1/2 lug nut pattern. It uses Inner bearing item # L68149 and outer bearing item # LM67048 so you'll want to confirm these are the same bearings in your current hubs.

You'll be able to replace your damaged brake assemblies with the Dexter Electric Trailer Brakes item # K23-462-463-00. These are rated for 4,400 lbs axles and have a four bolt mounting flange.

To replace your 26" long leaf spring, you'll want the 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 4,500-lb Trailer Axles item # e27SR.

How did you get the 26" long measurement on your leaf springs? They stretch out over years of use so to get an accurate measurement for replacement, you'll need to get the trailer's weight off of one side of your trailer and measure the leaf spring from the center of the two mounting holes.

What kind of trailer do you have?

I had the same measurement axle on my wellscargo trailer. It was also a drop axle. I could not find one anywhere in stock for it. I got the new brakes bearings hubs and hardware from here at e trailer bit unfortunately ended up having to have a new axel custom made. I had a 6x12 wells cargo that line had a odd size axle under it. If your axel is not damaged i would suggest getting the new brakes hubs and such from these guys here. The have always gotten what i needed quick and correct the first time. Just the breaks are cheaper then a new axle
