Is There A More Robust 26" Long Leaf Spring To Use In Place Of e22YR?

Updated 10/28/2025 | Published 03/03/2025

Question:

I currently use e22YR leaf springs with Dexter EZ flex product K71-652-00. My axles are rated at 3500 lbs. I keep breaking springs. The roads in Memphis are riddled with deep potholes and probably contributing to the premature failure. Is there another robust spring I should be purchasing?

Hello again, Doug. The # e22YR spring is for a 4,000 lb axle, so technically this is already more robust than what would typically be used with your axle. If you want to bump up the capacity even farther, we do have the # e27SR spring which is 26" long and is for a 4,500 lb axle. Should be a bit more durable than what you have now, and it will fit into your suspension.

Your spring breaking like that is a bit worrisome. Usually when we see this happen repeatedly it is because the springs are overloaded. Going with a stronger spring should help, but if you can do anything to reduce the trailer weight this should help too.

Hey Doug, how did things go after switching to the 4,500‑lb leaf springs with your Dexter EZ Flex setup? Did the stronger springs hold up better on those rough Memphis roads? Your update could make it easier for others dealing with the same issue.

@JesseM So far so good. The springs are slightly stiffer but I added the E-Z Flex Heavy Duty Rubber Suspension System by Dexter (which I highly recommend) and is a nonissue now. The upcoming winter months will be the true test. With freezing temperatures on the way, the newly paved and patched roads will deteriorate and offer a better evaluation.

@DougC Ok great thanks for sharing! Glad to hear things are working out. We are here in Missouri and our roads take an absolute beating during the winter so I know what you mean. Feel free to come back this spring and let me know how its going. Or feel free to come back anytime you need anything else!
