Can Blind Spot Monitoring System CU65XR Be Used on Flat Bed Vehicle

Updated 03/04/2026 | Published 03/01/2026

Question:

I am installing an aftermarket aluminum flatbed on my 2019 Ram 2500 diesel crew cab pick up truck. According to the installer I will lose my factory bsm and cross path detection sensors as they are mounted within the truck bed taillights. I have not found anyone able to relocate these factory bsm sensors from the tail lights to the flatbed, and I believe they have to disable the warning codes for the factory Bsm sensors as they are removing them...i believe this CU65XR kit would work a a replacement option as I can mount these sensors on the side of the flatbed. What information does the obd connector and controller box pull from the trucks system? Just speed and other standard info? or is it looking for anything from the factory Bsm or rear cross path detection info as well? since the factory sensors will be disabled

Hey Brian, the Blind Spot Monitoring System for Towable Campers, Travel Trailers, and 5th Wheels Up to 30' Long # CU65XR that you referenced can give you a blind spot monitoring system but its not going to integrate into your vehicle wiring. It is going to be it's own separate system with it's own display and everything. Or were you asking from point of view that there would be error messages on your dash?

Thanks, I am looking to make sure that if the factory Bsm sensors are disabled because they are being removed, that this does not depend on any information from them to operate.

@BrianH Gotcha! Yeah this system is totally separate and would not require info from the OEM sensors.
