My WFCO 45A just died in my 2012 Coachmen. Do I have to stay at 45 amps or can I move up to 55? Its a standalone converter charger, not part of power center box.

Hey Brian - if you’re replacing a WFCO 45A standalone converter/charger, the direct Auto-Detect replacement would be the # WF58FR. That keeps everything in the same output class and is usually a straightforward swap.

That said, many people take this opportunity to step up to the # WF38FR 55A for a little faster charging - especially if they’ve added a second battery or upgraded to lithium.

If you do move to 55 amps, just make sure your battery cables from the converter to the batteries are 6-gauge copper or thicker. Eight-gauge is generally fine up to about 50 amps, but once you cross that line, 6-gauge is the safer choice to avoid voltage and heat.

Are you still running a single battery, or have you expanded your bank over the years?

It's just one 100ah battery to run to the inverter which then powers LED lights and fan, sometimes charger laptop or phone. Nothing too crazy.

@Brian Oh nice, that's a cool setup! Then you probably don't necessarily need to upgrade to 45A, but it's a nice little 10A upgrade when going to the 55A so you might as well. This will help if you ever get another battery also.
