Hey Taylor! We get questions like this all the time.

Moving from 45A to 55A - like stepping from the # WF58FR (45A) to the # WF38FR (55A) - is usually fine, but this is where wire size starts to matter.

If you’re upgrading to 55 amps, you’ll want to make sure the battery cables running from the converter to the batteries are 6-gauge or thicker. Eight-gauge wiring is generally considered safe up to about 50 amps, so once you move beyond that, 6-gauge is the safer and more appropriate choice - especially if the run is more than a few feet.

The real concern isn’t “frying” the system - it’s avoiding voltage drop and excess heat in undersized wiring. A 10-amp jump is modest, but proper cabling ensures you actually benefit from the higher output instead of losing performance in the wires.

Where things get more serious is stepping up to something like the 100A # WF56FR, which typically requires much heavier cabling.
