Question:
I’m shopping for a used 550/5500 pickup and I need a 40k rated gooseneck hitch. What do you recommend? I’m not finding any hitches rated for more than 30k. The trailer I want to use is a triple tandem 40k GVWR with 3” ball hitch.

Hey David. So long as there is a B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck hitch available for whatever truck you end up buying, you can install the 3" Hitch Ball for B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck item # BWGNXA2025 to increase the capacity to 40,000 lbs.
If your truck doesn't have a custom fit option, you can use the B&W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch item # BWGNRK1500 and have a welder fabricate a bracing system.
Do you have any idea what year, make, and model truck you're going to be purchasing?

Hi Jerred, thanks for the response. I have two F350 DRW trucks with 7.3 engines and tow a Big Tex 22GN equipment trailer and a Texas Pride 20K GVWR gooseneck dump trailer. I plan to purchase a larger dozer and will need to increase my towing capacity. I have a gooseneck equipment trailer picked out but not firm on the truck. The newer Ford F450s tow up to 40K and that's what I'm looking at. I see people towing 35k with the same hitch I have that is rated for only 30k. I'm sure there'll probably never be a problem, but if I spend that much money, I want ALL the equipment rated for what I plan to tow. I'm probably approaching the point where I just need to forget the pickup/gooseneck and move up to a medium duty truck with pintle hitch trailer.
