Question:
Want to know if the shanks are universal in the sense that I can attach another brand ball mount to the longer shank?

We have found a few brands that use their own unique weight distribution shanks, but for the most part they are universal, including your Eaz-Lift shank. You can verify this by measuring the diameter of the bolt holes (3/4 inch diameter) and the distance between each bolt hole (should be 1-1/4 inches).
The Curt Weight Distribution Shank, # C17122, will fit the head of your Eaz-Lift system and it measures 16 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the end of the shank. Curt and Eaz-Lift use slightly different heads, so the rise and drop measurements will not be exactly the same, but they will be pretty close - within half of an inch or so. This shank will provide more drop and rise (about 4 inches more) than the standard Eaz-Lift shank that is included with their system.
