Question:
I bought a 21 ram 2500 . I bought a travel trailer and a weight distribution hitch. The trailer has a 700-800 lb loaded tongue weight. The trailer is 8500 lb loaded. I dont have the truck here now but I am concerned that I will not be able to the tailgate when trailer attached to truck without trailer crank hitting tailgate. I know that the further the extension the less load. Is there such a thing as an adjustable extension so I could just extend what I need and thats it? The truck has a Class 5 hitch 2 1/2inch hitch.

All of our Hitch extenders for 2 1/2 inch receivers reduce down to 2". They are not adjustable either you only have the two options. We have the Curt one that you referenced item # C45048 but at 24" its capacity is reduced down to 8,000 lbs when used with a weight distribution system. At 34" its capacity is reduced down to 6,000 lbs with a weight distribution system. The Reese Hitch Box Extension item # RP45292 has an identical length and carrying capacities and also reduces down to a 2". The Brophy Hitch Reducer and Extender - 2-1/2" to 2" Trailer Hitch Item # HR26 is 7" long and has a capacity of 10,000 lbs when used with a weight distribution and a maximum tongue weight of 1,000 lbs.
I recommend using a weight distribution skank, like the Curt weight Distribution Shank item # C17122, to get some tailgate clearance from the rear of your truck. This shank measures 18 inches overall and 14-inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the attachment holes for the head. This shank has a 15,000-lb weight capacity and this shank has an overall height of 10-inches.
