Availability of King Pin Lock For Pin Box With Capture Plate

Updated 02/10/2026 | Published 02/04/2026

Question:

I have a sliding Patriot hitch with a catch plate on the trailer. The catch plate has a small square block mounted on the bottom near the opening for the king pin. That small square block prevents the typical cylindrical locks from fitting properly. What type of lock will work with a catch plate?

Hi Lisa; a lock like the # e49PR typically has enough room to fit even with a capture plate. I'm not entirely sure what yours looks like, you can send me a picture if you want and I can double check. It is also worth noting that the Patriot doesn't require a capture plate. You can solve this problem by simply removing it and using whichever lock you want.

We have a Alliance 32rls fifth wheel. Our king pin lock works great.

I bought the # e49PR to have for a backup, just in case the old Barjan I bought over 30 years ago at a truckstop for securing my trailer finally decides to fail me. I've not even taken the dunnage off of it. It appears to be well made though. The mechanism in my old one has been an issue a time or two recently which prompted me to get a spare.
