Question:
Ok - what is the technique to remove the old caps so I can install the new ones. There is a cap on both sides of my 3 roller bunks. Tired of the caps falling off during fishing season. My plan is to rebuild the entire cap/roller system with the parts I ordered. Thanks

Hey Rick, thanks for the pictures. Removing cap nuts, like the Replacement Cap Nut item # CE10801A you purchased, requires grabbing the outer flange with a set of pliers. You'll need to pry open the cap enough how to get it off. I recommend using a flat head screw driver to get the edges up enough to get the pliers in there.
How old are those rollers and cap nuts?

Thanks Jerrod- the rollers are over 10 years old. I bought them used trying to save $. We live in a salt water area so rust is always an issue. I’m replacing my carpeted bunks with these roller bunks as an upgrade. Anyway my solution for removal of the rusted caps was grind off the top of the cap which allows you access to the axle shaft then beat on the shaft with a punch or the ball side of a ball peen hammer. Once one cap is off slide the axle shaft out of the rollers. Support the axle loosely in a vice and beat the other cap off by hitting the center with the ball side of a ball peen hammer. Works like a charm. Of course clean the axle rods off with a grinder and wire wheel. Reassemble every thing with silicone grease and new caps. In my case I installed 24 new caps.
