How Do I Know If My 10k AL-KO/Hayes Brake Caliper Is For The Right Or Left Side Of A Trailer
Updated 12/07/2021 | Published 12/06/2021 >
Question:
The caliper I have has a number KH97202 and a L535 on the forging. The caliper I have is on the right side of a gooseneck trailer. I am afraid the axle is mounted backwards and the left is actually the right. Is there anyway to know. The caliper you show for the right does not have these numbers on them?

The KH97202 caliper you have pictured can actually be the left (driver) side or the right (passenger) side. So it wasn't necessarily installed backwards and I found a couple pictures showing that they used to put that casting number on both sides. However, there is a quick and easy way to differentiate between the two and I included a picture of how to do so. All you need to do is look at which side the bleeder port is on. I will warn you that this will sound very counterintuitive, but if the port is on the right side, it is a left (driver) side caliper # BP18-050. If the port is on the left side, it will be a right (passenger) side caliper # BP18-060.
If they do turn out to be backwards, I highly recommend correcting this when installing the new calipers.
