Upgrading Heavy Angle Iron Ramps On Trailer To Bolt-On Folding Aluminum Ramps

Updated 02/03/2026 | Published 02/02/2026

Question:

I currently use heavy steel angle-iron ramps that slide into my trailer, and honestly I hate them. Will these actually stay put and not rattle going down the road? Mine make noise every time I hit a bump and they are a pain to move in and out of the slides and onto the back when loading every week.

Mark, that’s exactly the problem RapidRamps were designed to fix. And I understand the frustration as I currently use 3 foot long heavy angle-iron steel ramps on my Big Tex car hauler. I plan to upgrade to one of these kits.

Once you install a RapidRamps kit - whether that’s a 5' option like # e37XV (5 - 6-1/2' wide trailers) or # e97XV (over 6-1/2' wide), or a 6' kit like # e47XV (5 - 6-1/2' wide trailers) or # e67XV (over 6-1/2' wide trailers) - the ramps stay bolted to the trailer full-time, so there’s no sliding, storing, or shifting around.

When the ramps are folded straight up, they automatically latch in the upright position so they won’t move. There’s also an optional anti-rattle adjustment knob you can tighten to reduce wobble and noise on rough roads, which is something most upright ramps don’t offer. If you want to share your trailer width and what you’re loading, I can help dial in whether the 5' or 6' kit is the better fit, and which width you need.

For example, my BigTex is not real high off the ground so a 5 foot ramp is fine, and it is 7 feet wide, so the # e97XV is going to be best for my specific trailer.

Good to know. Is the anti-rattle knob something I have to mess with every trip, or can I just leave it alone?

@Mark You can absolutely leave it alone if you don't want to use it, Mark. The ramps will be safe and secure just using the upright auto-latch. The anti-rattle knob is completely optional and really just there to fine-tune things if you notice movement or noise on rough roads. I personally plan to use the knob after getting these bad boys installed on my car hauler trailer. I want to minimize any wobble. But again, you don't need to use it if you don't want to! You won't damage anything by just using the auto latch.
