Does DeeMaxx Disc Brake Kit DE66AR Work With Lippert ABS Controller?

Updated 01/23/2026 | Published 01/20/2026

Question:

I have a 2025 Brinkley Z3100 with the Lippert ABS Controller. Do you have to change the ABS Controller wiring when you install the DeeMaxx Disc Brake Kit DE66AR?

Hey Ken, great question, and nice camper! The short answer is no you don’t rewire the Lippert ABS to work with the DeeMaxx kit, you essentially bypass it.

Your Brinkley’s Lippert ABS controller is built for electric drum brakes, meaning it’s watching and controlling the brake magnets at each wheel. Once you remove the drums and magnets and switch to the DeeMaxx electric-over-hydraulic disc brakes, there’s nothing left for that ABS module to control. If it stays in the circuit, it’ll usually throw faults or just sit there doing nothing useful.

With the DeeMaxx # DE66AR, the actuator gets wired directly like any normal EOH setup: constant 12V power, ground, brake controller signal, and breakaway. You do not tie the actuator into the Lippert ABS brake outputs. That ABS system is basically out of the picture. The disc brakes will still work great and give your better braking power, you just won’t retain ABS functionality after the swap.

Do you feel like the current electric brakes aren't cutting it?

Hi Ken, Jesse provided a very thorough and accurate answer to your question. I have found that the disk brakes are far superior to the drum brakes that the Brinkley comes with. I understand that the new Brinkleys come with disk brakes. I installed the disk brakes myself. It is a chore to be sure but doable if you have mechanical experience and aptitude and are in reasonably good physical condition (the original drums are heavy). Good luck, Jeff

@Jeff Hey Jeff! This is great insight, thanks for much for sharing. Your observation is spot on - disc brakes provide way more stopping power than drum brakes. This is pretty important especially for these larger, nicer RVs like Brinkley makes. Thanks again for sharing your feedback. Its most valuable.

Is the DeeMaxx the best Disc Brake Conversion for this application?

@Ken Honestly yea it is. DeeMaxx stuff is super well made. Solid rust resistance and great stopping power. For 7K axles the DeeMaxx kit is definitely the way to go.

I was blown away by the stopping power of this kit. We have a 2018 Triton Voltage fifth wheel toy hauler. The old brakes barely worked. I dropped my gain to about 5 (I do believe). Install was very easy. When you bleed the system DON'T leave the "key" out of the breakaway switch because it will overheat and fail (melt). Don't ask me how I know ?? Good investment well worth the money. And e trailer was answering all my questions

@Joseph That’s awesome to hear, Joseph, thanks for sharing that. Dropping the gain after the swap is a good sign, those brakes are definitely doing their job. Also really appreciate you calling out the breakaway switch tip. That’s a big one that can bite people during bleeding if they’re not careful. Glad the install went smoothly and that it’s been a night-and-day improvement on your Voltage. Thanks again for the solid feedback.
