Does Lippert 12" Electric Brake Assembly ABS Need To Be Programmed Or Paired For Setup?

Updated 09/03/2025 | Published 08/25/2025

Question:

Do these 12inch Lippert ABS brakes need to be programmed or paired with anything on the tow vehicle side? I’m doing my own install.

Great question, Matt, and you’ll be glad to know: no programming or special setup needed for the Electric Brake Assembly 12" ABS # LC83PX. These brake assemblies work just like standard electric brakes on your trailer’s wiring. One wire goes to power (typically blue), and the other to ground. What’s different is the prep for the ABS sensor (from Lippert), which communicates with an ABS ring in the hub, and it plugs into the ABS module from Lippert.

So long as you’re using a compatible hub like # LC47PX (5.2K and 6K Axles - 12" - 6 on 5-1/2), the ABS system activates automatically - no extra wires to run. It’s plug-and-play for the Lippert ABS system.

I just installed these ABS brake assemblies on my 2021 Grand Design. Andrew, you mentioned the sensor plugs into the ABS module; where exactly is that module mounted on the trailer frame?

@Kyle Good question, Kyle. Lippert typically mounts the ABS control module up near the front frame rail, close to where the trailer’s wiring junction box lives. Look for a small, weather-sealed black box with a factory harness running to each axle. If you don’t see it, it may be tucked behind the propane tray or battery box.
