E-Bike Rack Recommendation for Easy Loading/Unloading of Bikes

Updated 01/20/2026 | Published 01/19/2026

Question:

Im looking to buy a bike rack and I like your offering. I need a rack for 2 electric bicycles they will weigh 60 - 70 lbs each and I will need to have a way to help load them onto the rack. What are my choices? I went through alot of your web pages on racks, but I didnt see anything about ramps to get the bicycle loaded. Im 73 and at this age, Ill take all the help I can get to load and unload the electric bikes. John

Hey John, for you I would recommend the Thule EasyFold XT bike rack part # TH903202 as this covers everything you need. It was designed for heavier e-bikes, and thanks to having a ramp that pulls out of the ramp is a lot easier to load and unload heavier bikes which you mentioned. We should advertise a little better on which racks have ramps but there's really only a few at this time and the EasyFold for me is the best option that covers all the bases including fitting both 2 inch and 1-1/4 inch hitches.

What bikes do you have?

I have a problem with Thule, I purchased a Thule from a bicycle store and paid full price, only to find out the rack was last years model and was phased out and they bicycle store didn't know they were selling obsolete racks..... Another problem is when you attach the rack to the 2 inch receiver the bicycle rack will rock left and right when driving or turning...... the best rack I've found is KUAT. I had one before and at that time is was set up for bicycles only. The way Thule attaches to the bicycles is not good, especially if you have a step through which is what my wife wants. Problem with KUAT is the ramp will only take up to 60ish pounds, Like I pointed out the bikes I'm looking at are in the 60 - 80 pounds. Your store was recommended by a friend. Lets go back to the drawing board and drop Thule from the conversation. thanks, John

@JohnB How do you feel about Yakima? We have the OnRamp part # Y88DJ which has a ramp built in and has an 80 lb per bike capacity. This fits only 2 inch hitches so in theory it should be a lot more stable in the hitch opening too. I agree Kuat bike racks are top notch!!

@JamesonC I like this rack, it fits all of my needs except for step through bicycles it looks like the holders will be able to hold step through bicycles. We are getting close. Do you have one that is like this one, but the holder clamps down on the front wheel? John

@John How about the Kuat Piston Pro part # KU76ZR with the ramp # KU63VR. It's a Kuat so you know it's really nice. It has a 67 per bike capacity, only fits 2 inch hitches, and only grabs the bikes by the wheels/tires like you are wanting as well. As far as bike racks with ramps the only one with an 80 lb per bike capacity is the Yakima Onramp. It typically does just fine with step thru frames for what that's worth.
