Do I Need a Fuse Bypass Switch and Breakaway Kit to Flat Tow My 2014 Honda CR-V

Updated 01/15/2026 | Published 01/13/2026

Question:

I have recently installed the BX2258 base plate kit and the BX88314 EX Light wiring kit on my 2014 Honda CRV. Do I also need a fuse override and a break-away kit?

Hey Michael!

For flat towing your 2014 CR-V, you’ll want the Roadmaster FuseMaster Bypass Switch # RM76511. Some manuals list the wrong fuse, so I attached a photo showing the correct one.

Do you already have a supplemental braking system? They include a built-in breakaway feature. If not, check out the Blue Ox Patriot Portable Brake System # BLU37TR —it’s a solid option. You will need the RoadMaster 12-Volt Outlet # RM-9332 to power the system. If you do have a braking system and just need a breakaway kit for another vehicle, then let me know which one and I’ll find the right kit for you!

Other components you'll need for a full flat tow setup are a tow bar and safety cables. Do you have those already?

Thank you, Josh. That helped a lot. I've never flat-towed before, so I'm learning as I go. I'll definitely be ordering more parts and may be asking more questions in the future.
