Question:
2019 Heartland Road Warrior 430RW - Main black tank valve is unresponsive. How do I determine actual location and which valve is correct for replacement?

Hey Brian, thanks for reaching out. On the Road Warrior, the main black tank valve is often not located right at the dump outlet. Heartland commonly uses a remote, cable-operated gate valve, so the handle you pull may be several feet away from the actual valve. When the handle feels unresponsive, it’s usually because the valve itself is sticking or the cable has failed.
To find the actual valve, crawl underneath and follow the black tank drain pipe from the tank toward the termination. You’ll be looking for a gate valve body mounted inline on the pipe with a cable attached to it. It’s commonly tucked up near a frame rail or above the enclosed underbelly.
Once you locate it, replacement is based on pipe size and valve style, not the trailer model. Most setups use a 3 inch Valterra-style cable-operated valve, and the key detail will be matching the pipe diameter and cable length. If you can grab a few quick measurements, it’s easy to make sure you get the right replacement the first time.
For example, the LaSalle Bristol Cable-Actuated RV Waste Valve for Black Water Tank # 34466N4AB72GMA is for a standard 3" pipe and has a 72" cable.
Let me know what you come up with and I am happy to look into it.

Good morning! My valve replacement was repairing both black and grey tank valves on my Lance 1172 truck camper. Fortunately, I simply removed the camper from the truck, crawled below the camper and dropped the bottom panels to work on the valves. I ordered exact valve replacements as my Lance is only a couple of years old. Obviously, the most important step is thoroughly cleaning the tanks! Replacing the valves was a tedious task and be sure to do this outside or have 5 gallon buckets handy and sewage will flow. FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS! Lance neglecting secure the original cables which caused the failure. The cables need to be secured in multiple places to assure smooth valve operation. I secured them with quality zip ties. Any other questions or concerns, please feel free to ask.
