Can Fulton Fold-Away Coupler Hinge Kit Be Used On 1/4" Thick Trailer Tongue

Question:
The Fulton 3 x 5” folding adapter specifies a material thickness of between .188 and .120 inches. For a 9000 lb. GVWR trailer this seems overly thin. My 3” x 5” EZ Loader trailer tongue has a .25 inch material thickness. Will the Fulton galvanized fold away coupler fit this application?

Hey Steven! As long as that is .25" thick steel there is no reason why you wouldn't be able to weld the Fulton Fold-Away Coupler Hinge Kit for 3" x 5" Tongue # FHDPW350300 onto your trailer. The instructions/requirements for the coupler hinge also cover the bolt-on versions which is the main reason for that thickness requirement. Make sure you take it to a certified welder for installation.
