Can I Put 215/75R17.5 Tires On My Solitude 5th Wheel?

Updated 12/30/2025 | Published 12/04/2025

Question:

I have a Solitude 5th wheel RV with size 205/75r17.5 tires. The replacement tires are hard to locate and hugely expensive. Will another size tire fit the same rim and they are Lionshead rims and I would like to keep them?

Hey Brian, thanks for reaching out. Yes there are other tire sizes that will fit the same 17.5" rim. A 215/75R17.5 would be the next closest size that fits the rim. The main thing to consider here is the clearance in your wheel well area. Ideally you want at least 3" between the tire and the fender, and at least 1" between the inside of the tire and the frame of the trailer.

A 205/75R17.5 tire is typically about 29.5" in diameter and 8" wide. If you go up to a 215/75R17.5 they are about 30.25" in diameter and 8.3" wide. So not a huge increase in size. I suggest you check the wheel well clearance with the current tire setup. As long as there is a bit of room to spare, you will be good to do a 215/75R17.5. For that I recommend the following:

- Triangle 215/75R17.5 Heavy-Duty Radial Tire - Load Range H # TR68VR

Hey Brian, how did things work out with the 215/75R17.5 tires on your Solitude 5th wheel? Were you able to confirm you had enough clearance around the fender and frame? Your update could make it easier for others trying to fit a similar tire size.

Yes. I do have room. I'm just not quite ready to replace them yet. Thank you.
