RV AC Unit Recommendation for 1998 Winnebago Adventurer

Updated 11/13/2025 | Published 11/09/2025

Question:

I have a 1998 Winnebago Adventurer and want to replace the front ac unit. My coach has a ducted system that runs off of 30 amps and a Coleman thermostat. I am looking for a 15k unit to upgrade since the summer months are hot inside. What would you recommend as a replacement and what all would I need to complete the replacement inside and out? I believe the one I have is a Coleman 13500 btu. I included a few pictures on the inside.

Hey Brian, your pictures didn't make it through but we can definitely help. Since everything we offer is going to require replacing every part of the AC ecosystem you have now what I would recommend is the Furrion Chill Cube part # FR69TD.

This will give you the coldest blowing, quietest, and lowest amp drawing system available and it comes with everything you'd need to install as well.

Will I run into any issue with the new setup and controlling my furnace? Also can I use the existing thermostat wiring to install the new stat?

@Brian The Furrion thermostat has some compatibility issues depending on your exact furnace and how it is wired. It is designed to work with a 2-wire system, but even some of those have had issues. The thermostat was just released and when I talked to Furrion about this they basically told me it just won't work with some setups. That doesn't exactly inspire confidence so I would keep everything separate to make it simple. I still recommend the Chill Cube, it is the best system out there right now in my opinion, but the furnace compatibility is a potential problem. If your current thermostat has the temperature sensor built into it you can use it for just the furnace and use the Chill separate. Otherwise we have furnace only thermostats you could use like the part # DMC84RR.

@Brian That's a Suburban furnace that is rated for 42k BTU. What thermostat are you using with it and does it have the temperature sensor built into it?
