Will Upgrading 5th Wheel Pin Box To MORryde Goosetech Help Make Ride Smoother? 12k lbs 1116 Lippert

Updated 10/30/2025 | Published 10/29/2025

Question:

Our fifth-wheel’s about 12,000 pounds, and we’re thinking of switching to a gooseneck to make hookup easier. Will it tow rougher or smoother?

Cathy - you’ll actually get a smoother ride if you go with a cushioned design, compared to a standard 5th wheel pin box that isn't cushioned. If it's already cushioned, you'll have a similar experience aside from ease of use on the new gooseneck setup (no longer need to mess with the heavy, bulky hitch in the bed).

For your size, the MORryde GooseTech # MR77MV Lippert 1116 fit is ideal, but we do need to make sure you have the 1116 pin box (see attached article to verify). Its rubber shear-spring softens the push-pull between truck and trailer, and you’ll get rid of that bulky 5th-wheel hitch entirely. It’s a comfort and convenience upgrade in one.

What year and model 5th wheel do you have, Cathy?
