Can Champion 4,000-Watt Portable Inverter Generator be Used to Charge RV Battery Bank?

Updated 10/15/2025 | Published 10/02/2025

Question:

We have a 50a Arctic Fox 27-5L, Our Honda E2200 trips its breaker. I can buy 2 of these Champion 4000s, but since the 4000 has a 30a receptacle, will just one at least charge the battery on the RV? All our 110 stuff runs off our 3000w inverter, I think!

Hey Brett!

The Champion 4,000-Watt Portable Inverter Generator # CH79FR has a 25A rating for an RV connection so you'll be just fine once you pick up an adapter like the Camco # CAM55185 when it comes to the breaker tripping.

As long as you aren't pulling more than 25A of power then you can use just one of them instead of using 2 of them and the ParaLINK Kit # CH84FR.

Are you planning on using minimum 110V power, or are you trying to use standard power on your Arctic Fox 27-5L?

We use 50a power most places, but will occasionally boondock. We heard one generator guy suggest running on one 4000watt was like driving your car at 70mph all the time. So he thinks you need 2. I want to disagree with that. Particularly since all my 110 stuff runs off the inverter. I don’t really understand the inverter/battery stuff. But if all my 110 runs off inverter, seems like this generator would just be charging batteries. And not directly running ac’s, fridge, etc??

@BrettR I would agree with your one generator guy. You can get away with using a single 4,000-Watt generator, but you'll need to make sure you're careful about how much power you're using. The inverter pulls DC power from your battery bank and changes it to AC power for your 110 products, but when you use a generator, it will give AC power directly so you won't be messing with the batteries until the generator shuts off.
