Does 2025 Airstream Need Weight Distribution When Towed by Ford F-250

Question:

Hello, I’m considering purchasing a 2025 Air Stream 25 foot travel trailer I will be pulling it with a 3/4 ton Ford Super Duty. My question is about Weight Distribution and Sway control. Do you know if Air Stream requires a certain brand? Also because the truck is more than able to pull this trailer , is the hitch really needed. Thanks Pete

Hey Peter, I looked up the weight of your 2025 Air Stream 25 foot travel trailer and while a weight distribution with sway control wouldn't hurt it wouldn't be needed for an F-250. Weight distribution systems are never a legal requirement and while they do help reduce sag and improve handling/braking when towing for a truck your size the benefit wouldn't be nearly as noticeable so I wouldn't recommend it as a requirement. Now if you start hauling an ATV in the bed of the truck while towing the trailer then it would be a good idea but as-is I don't think you'd need one.

If you wanted to improve handling/ride quality when loaded and unloaded I would instead recommend a RAS kit like the part # RAS3611-SHD. This also will reduce sag too but since it isn't a hassle to setup every time you tow like a WD system and it offers benefits when not towing as well I would recommend this over a WD for your setup.

Thanks for this advice, I checked on e trailer sight for options and found the Shocker hitch impact hitch #SHK94RR as a possible option. Would you see any issues with this choice. Thanks Pete

@PeterW The cushioned ball mount part # SHK94RR that you referenced will do a great job but it's not really in same category as a weight distribution system. It will smooth out the ride when towing though.
