Are Lippert ABS Brake Assemblies 10" 3,500lb Self Adjusting On New 5th Wheel?
Updated 09/03/2025 | Published 08/12/2025 >
Question:
I’m trying to figure out if these Lippert brakes are self-adjusting. I don’t want to crawl under the trailer every few months. I'm looking at a new 5th wheel that has these so I'll come to you for parts in the future.

You’re in luck, Dave. Yes, the Electric Trailer Brake Assembly for Lippert ABS Hubs 10" 3,500 lbs # LC73PX are self-adjusting electric brakes. After the initial setup and brake pad break-in procedure, they’ll automatically adjust the brake shoes as they wear, so you’re not stuck with routine manual adjustments.
That means better braking performance over time and one less maintenance chore. Just give them a couple of brake applications after install to help the shoes seat properly.
Then if you ever need replacement ABS brake assemblies or ABS hubs/drums in the future, we got you covered Dave. What kind of new trailer is this? Grand Design? You'll notice a huge difference with the new anti-lock braking system, especially in a panic braking situation.

Andrew, if these Lippert 10" self-adjusting brakes keep themselves dialed in, how do I know when it’s time to check or replace the shoes?
