Can I Control Autoterm Heater With Thermostat Or Smartphone So I Don't Have To Get Up At Night?

Updated 09/03/2025 | Published 08/11/2025

Question:

We’d like to avoid getting up at night to adjust the temp. Do these heaters come with a thermostat, or would we need to get one? how does that work? thanks

Great question, and you're in luck. Both the Air 2D # AU56MR and Air 4D # AU96MR come with a control panel that lets you set and maintain a specific cabin temperature. Once you dial in your desired temp, the heater automatically ramps up or down (or cycles off) to hold it there, no middle-of-the-night adjustments needed.

The Travelbox 2.0 # AU36MR also supports temperature-based control, but you’ll need to plug in the optional external temp sensor (sold separately) for that feature. Out of the box, this one just has an on/off button and some different heating modes.

If you want the ultimate convenience, all three models are compatible with smartphone control using a plug-in modem (sold separately). That way, you can adjust heat from your bed, the cab, or even while you’re outside getting ready for bed.

Hi Andrew. Is the thermostat built into the main control panel, or do I need to mount a separate sensor somewhere? -Kirt

@Kirt Hey there Kirt. On the Air 2D and 4D, the thermostat is built right into the control panel itself, so no extra sensor is needed, just mount the panel where it can “feel” the cabin temp accurately. If you go with the Travelbox # AU36MR, that’s when you’d add the external sensor. Where are you thinking of mounting the panel in your build - near the bed or closer to the cab?
