Updated 08/07/2025 | Published 08/03/2025

Question:

To whom it may concern: I would like to upgrade my tandem trailer equalizers to the type with dampers. Would you kindly guide me toward the correct products? -Wheelbase is 29-30 -Leaf springs are ~20-1/2 eye to eye overslung -Current equalizer is 6-1/8 wide c-c and 4 high from hanger bolt to shackle bolt c-c. Many thanks, cheers!

Hey Pat, thanks for the information! To upgrade your current equalizers to ones that dampen road shock, I recommend the MORryde Rubber Equalizers for Tandem Axle Trailers item # MR87ZR. They measure 6-1/2" from bolt hole to bolt hole and are 3-1/4". They're a bit shorter but that won't negatively affect the movement or height of your suspension.

These cushioned equalizers will help to extend the life of your suspension components by absorbing the harsh road shock and reducing back and forth chucking. This will give you a safer and more comfortable towing experience.

Since you are replacing your equalizers, you'll also need to replace the suspension bolts. They're only meant to be torqued down once. What you'll want to do is measure one of the shackles from bolt hole to bolt hole and go with the closest size. The MORryde Suspension Upgrade Kit item # MR58ZR has 2-1/4" shackles and for 3-1/8" shackles item # MR76ZR.

Are you interested in replacing your leaf springs as well? If so I just need to know if you lifted the trailer up and measured the springs without weight on them to get the 20-1/2" eye to eye measurement. Leaf springs tend to stretch out over their years of use and getting the weight off of them is the most accurate way, except for a part number, to determine a replacement size.

Hey Jerred, Thank you kindly for your detailed answer. I did in fact unload the springs before measuring and they are new since the end of last season. The MORryde upgrade would definitely be an improvement, good to know there is a model that suits my setup. Points taken about replacing the bolts and potentially the shackles as well. Now I need to decide whether I upgrade the equalizers or upgrade to a silent ride! Much appreciated, cheers, Pat

@Pat You're welcome! If you can afford the upfront cost of the Timbren Silent Ride that's definitely going to be the better option. If you could tell me your trailer's year, make, and model and how many leafs your springs have I can look up options for leaf springs and the correct Silent Ride system.

@JerredH Glad you can advise me on the silent ride. I am working with a 5x10 utility trailer frame that I modified. The tandem axle wheelbase was 29", 2000lb axles with overslung 20-1/2" eye-eye 1-3/4" wide springs - pretty basic. However I have a frame to axle center distance of 9", which is difficult to achieve with the silent rides. If I go with silent ride, the most appropriate I think is the SR4000T10 but the frame to axle center is only 4-3/4". I could add a 2x4 spacer beam on either side but wondering if I can flip the spring perches to the bottom of the swing arms? Thanks in advance

@Pat Could you confirm that part number? I do not see anything when I search a Timbren SR4000T10. Also what are the diameter of your axles? The smallest Silent Ride we have is for 2-3/8" round axles item # TSR7000T04. The replacement springs for your trailer would be the 3-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 2,000-lb Trailer Axles - 20-3/8" Long item # e84SR.
